Prospect Kyle Muller to make 2022 Braves debut today versus Rangers

We knew this day was bound to come at some point this season, but on Sunday the Braves reported that prospect lefty Kyle Muller will start today’s game against the Rangers.

Muller will take Bryce Elder’s spot on the Braves roster, as the latter heads back down to Triple-A Gwinnett.

If you recall, Muller was mostly sharp in his MLB debut last season, ending an eight-start stretch – featuring one relief appearance – in which he pitched to a respectable 4.17 ERA, to go with nine strikeouts per nine. His most memorable outing so far will perhaps go down as his June 27 start against the Reds in Cincinnati, where Muller tossed a one-hitter in five innings, while striking out nine. Of his eight big league starts last year, five featured less than two earned runs, which certainly helped the Braves as it labored its way to the 2021 trade deadline.

So far in Gwinnett, Muller has been good, though not great. The 24-year-old owns a 3.66 ERA in four minor league starts this season, to go with 12.8 K/9. Hopefully Muller can put together a strong outing during today’s day game in Texas, as I’m sure this won’t be the last time the Braves will need him.
