Following the Braves 8-6 win over the Twins on Saturday, the team did the inevitable and reassigned prospect Michael Harris II (along with reliever Brad Brach) to minor league camp, where he’ll most likely start the 2022 regular season at Double-A Mississippi.

Notice I used the word “inevitable” above. I know many of us have been drinking the Harris kool-aid but it must be remembered that the kid is still just 21-years-old and coming off a 2021 campaign in which he spent all year at the High-A level. Sure, he was impressive with Rome last season — hitting .294 with 36 XBH (7 HR) and 27 stolen bases (good for a 114 wRC+) — but there was never a chance that Harris would make the Braves Opening Day roster this year.

It certainly was a nice spring, though, despite it being a rather quick one. Down in Florida with the Braves, Harris slashed .273/.429/.364 to go with a double, two RBI and three stolen bases in six games. This was his third Spring Training with the Braves and last season Harris also hit well as he finished camp with a .278 AVG and two XBH (1 HR) in 16 games in 2021. Now it’s time for him to get prepared for the 2022 minor league regular season, where he should be the Mississippi Braves starting center fielder.
