Braves finally sport winning record while the farm gets swept

Usually it’s disappointing to see that every minor league team took a loss, but for Thursday night’s case… not so much. The big league team finally got over the hump and now have more wins than losses this season, a feat they just couldn’t seem to achieve during the campaign’s first 98 games. All is well… we now have a winning baseball club.

Here’s a recap of last night’s action. Today’s recap is one of them shortened ones, given I’m flying home and in the process of updating my Braves Top 30 prospect list.

(55-54) Atlanta Braves

W, 8-4 vs. Cardinals

SP, T. Toussaint – 5.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 K, HR

3B, A. Riley – 2 for 5, HR, 2 RBI

CF, J. Pederson – 1 for 3, HR, RBI

SS, D. Swanson – 2 for 4, 2 2B, R

It’s a sweep! It only took 99 games to do it, but the Braves are above .500 for the first time this season, following its win over the Cardinals last night. Touki Toussaint pitched decently but was out of the game in the sixth with the game tied at two apiece. However, once the righty left, it looked as if the Atlanta bullpen was going to once again spoil a potential win.

But the eighth inning was all Atlanta as Austin Riley started things with homer. Then St. Louis proceeded to gift the Braves with six consecutive walks (one of which was a HBP), which resulted in four more runs for Atlanta’s offense. The lead was simply too much for the Cards to overcome, and just like that, the Bravos had themselves a series sweep and a winning record. As we saw Thursday night, the pitching doesn’t have to be perfect when this Braves lineup is manufacturing runs. Singles, homers and walks… Atlanta was doing it all last night.

3B. J. Camargo – 1 for 5, 2B, RBI, R
